Fans all over have been chomping at the bit for awhile for Chris Young to finally release his highly teased 8th studio album Famous Friends. The singer had previously released singles “Raised On Country,” “Drowning,” and “Town Ain’t Big Enough,” promising news on a future album was on the way, but when COVID hit and everything shut down, fans were clinging to any possible release date for this highly anticipated album.
That time has come. After the release of his number one single “Famous Friends” with Kane Brown, Young announced that his new album titled after the now infamously infectious tune, would release on August 6, 2021. Available today, the album contains 14 tracks, with Young co-producing 13 of them, and solo producing the last track. It also contains a bevy of famous friends as collaborators and background vocals, giving this album its notable title.
The four previously released tunes and newly achieved number one single “Famous Friends” are all included on the album, along with nine other formidable contenders. Two of those, “Tonight We’re Dancing” and “Love Looks Good on You,” are as romantic and sexy as they sound. Young’s vocals are effortless and strong, and the differing emotions he delivers with both have surpassed his previous romantic singles. While the latter focuses on how powerful one’s love is, the other is focused on spending that alone time, no matter where, doing what feels natural. Both have beautiful instrumentals to pull you in, but Young’s vocals are what pull the whole thing off, including a higher register note at the end of “Love Looks Good on You.”
Along with romance, this album contains a few rocking country tunes like “Hold My Beer Watch This” and “One of Them Nights,” catering to the beer drinkers out there. HMBWT’s theme involves making the first move, while the other is centered around a weekend full of friends, fields, and feeling free, and guaranteed to be a fan favorite as a concert opener. These two tunes compliment “Raised on Country” nicely and have a nice place in the middle of the tracks.
Rounding out the tracks are a few on the sentimental side, one a cleverly written proposal. “Rescue Me” is written with a unique twist; superheroes are known for rescuing a damsel in distress, except the superhero is the damsel, who’d do the rescuing if she excepts the proposal. The other, “At the End of a Bar” which features Mitchell Tenpenny, acquiesces that a bar or bartender conversations are genuinely the salvations for many to disclose life’s woes. Their vocals, along with background singers are impressive when added to a great storyline.
With the collaborations on this album, creative song writing, excellent production, and thoughtful placement of tracks, Famous Friends is a solid album from first song to last. With Young’s vocals sounding better than ever, this is the album to download and don’t be surprised if it claims the number one slot.
