Colt Ford, the Georgia born rapper, singer songwriter, entrepreneur, and professional golfer, is best known for his blending of country, hip hop and rap. The singer has charted 6 times on hot country songs charts, co-wrote “Dirt Road Anthem” with Brantley Gilbert (scoring Jason Aldean his 6th #1), and has released 6 studio albums. His fourth album Declaration of Independence, earned Ford his first #1 Album and his first Top 40 charted single as a singer with “Back,” a duet with Jake Owen, on the Average Joe Entertainment Label, in which he co-founded. Now Ford is back with his seventh album, one which he claims, “reignited my passion for playing and making music.” Thus We The People contains tracks that center on subjects like politics, love, and rules. What it doesn’t do is lose any of the character, the rap and country vibe that is known to Ford fans.
Ford keeps his raw gritty performances on point even with a great mix of guests, like Mitchell Tenpenny on “Slow Ride,” a tune which creates a perfect picture into the lives of one couple. The two vocals blend perfectly, and it should easily become a radio hit:
Fans will still get a clear look into the album’s highs and lows as well as uptempo rap production mixed with Ford’s country grit from the first track “I’m Still Me,” a song that’s centered on being proud from where you came from, and no matter how many shoot you down, you work to prove them wrong.
The title track dives into that group of rebel rousers from the country who don’t plan on changing their ways, while “Red, White, Blue, and Blessed” is a patriotic, love letter to Ford’s hometown and features Walker Montgomery. Eddie Montgomery appears on the uptempo “Lucky Scars” with even more homegrown stories from one’s youth.
Besides “Slow Ride,” the album isn’t devoid of the softer side of Ford. The 13th track “How To Lose a Woman” details the inconspicuous ways to break a relationship.
We The People is classic Ford with twists from the soft and tender, to the rebellious and includes some unique duets that work perfectly, making this a creative masterpiece from beginning to end.
