Craig Morgan has been delivering powerful, deep-rooted country music for over 20 years. His life is lived out for the world through his music. He puts everything he has into each song he writes and sings. It’s no surprise that his newest album God, Family, Country, released on May 22, shares his faith, especially during the tragic loss of his son Jerry, but also how that faith keeps his family strong.
If you have ever listened to Morgan’s music, you know he has a deep passion for God, his family and his country. He is loyal to all three in his new album; a combination of five new songs and five remastered hits from past albums, it is a refreshing step back to the past, along with a giant leap into the future.
Returning to Broken Bow Records for his first new music in almost four years, Morgan pays tribute to his faith and his son Jerry with “The Father, My Son and The Holy Ghost.” A beautifully written, emotional homage to a loss that only The Father can give comfort. Morgan paints a picture of a man who stands strong in his faith on the outside but who is falling apart internally. Then, The Father takes hold and gives him a peace like no other.
Morgan’s take on Gavin DeGraw’s “Soldier“ is pure country love. He puts a sweet twang to the music and lyrics as only he can, breathing life into both. You get the image of a soldier providing comfort, peace and light to his family and country.
Morgan and his wife Karen have been married for 31 years. “Going Out Like This” shares how tough it is to make it through all that marriage offers. It can be hard, but it’s worth fighting to stay when you share your faith and love with someone. The highs and lows, ups and downs and even the sideways are better when you and your forever person share them.
“Whiskey” is another foray into relationships but this time it is about the time you didn’t fight. It tells of pouring whiskey on the pain to forget the one who you let slip through your fingers. Only the whiskey doesn’t cover the pain, it just complicates your life more by making you hurt more.
Morgan collaborated with two active duty Army Airborne Rangers to bang out “Sippin’ On The Simple Life.” They approached him after one of his shows and it all just came together. Morgan describes it as “a tailgate drinking song.” You can tap your toe and sing along pretty quickly. As per some of his other toe tappers, it starts with Morgan on his boat on the water, sippin’ on the simple life.
The five remastered songs are some crowd favorites: “God, Family and Country,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” “My Kind of Woman,” “Almost Home,” and “Lotta Man (In That Little Boy).” These five chart toppers are enough to make you want to listen to the album and the five new songs will surely be chart toppers in their own right soon.
