Mercury recording artist Lauren Alaina has been busy singing and dancing her way into our hearts and homes the past few years. Never been one to shy away from letting her heart speak the truth, fans will find that Lauren is continuing to do just that on her new EP Getting Over Him as recent life events have helped influence the tone and character of her latest release.
The title track features fellow country artist Jon Pardi and the pair up is absolute perfection.“Getting Over Him” is all about finding that guy who is no strings attached, a good time, and there to help you get over him. Each person knows this is not a forever thing, just the Saturday night, getting over him fling. The track kicks off with a gritty guitar sound, but it quickly picks up to a lively beat that will have you swaying along. Lauren’s sound is solid, full of spirit and energetic, and despite it being a song about getting over heartbreak, she brings a lightheartedness to the track that’s refreshing. We already have this one on repeat!
“If I Was a Beer” might be hands down the most entertaining, good humor revenge song we have ever heard. Using alcohol as metaphors, Lauren explains what would have happened to him if she was a beer. Lauren should be exploding from being so shook up by him, but he is in luck as she is a fine, fine wine. Lauren will not be crushed like a beer can as a result of him either. Once he decides he wants a second chance, it will be too late because she will be busy making someone else love drunk.
Lauren’s southern twang and impressive voice shines on “Bar Back.” This song illustrates how versatile her vocal range and capacity is; her voice is polished throughout this whole track as she sings everything from the chorus to the increased tempo changes. “Bar Back” is letting him know that he can have his sweatshirt back, his church service back, restaurants they went to, their favorite songs, but she is taking back her favorite hole in the wall bar. That bar that is full her friends and she is taking it back so you can go find a new one somewhere else.
The closing track “What Do You Think Of” features Danish Pop sensation Lukas Graham. “What Do You Think Of” was an impeccable choice to close out the EP. This track brings a softness and leaves it all out on the table. The simplicity of the keyboard and Lauren’s voice let the rawness of this track illuminate while intensity of Lauren and Lukas’s voice is consuming and heartfelt. It’s a simple question: what do you think of when you think of me? Do you recall any of the good times we spent together? Or do you just remember the bad times, when we were no longer communicating? This is an all too familiar question that many couples may wonder after the break up, what do you see when you look back.
Lauren Alaina has confirmed once again she is a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to leave it all out in the open during the good times and bad times in her life makes her so relatable. Fans know that they can count on Lauren to keep it raw and real and Getting Over Him will not disappoint. Lauren has such a rare power to her voice and it is illustrated throughout her whole EP.
