Duo Group RF Donovan, composed of singer-songwriters Rob Donovan and Faith Haroldson, have hit the ground running with the release of their first EP, Hand In Hand.
Recorded with Grammy Award winning musicians Bryan White, Steve Mackay (Tour bassist for Dolly Parton), U2’s track violinist Avery Bright, and renowned Nashville guitarist Jesse Isley, the album reached # 134 on the Top Country Album downloaded on iTunes and stayed in the Top 200 for days after its December 20th release.
The 6-track EP is a mix of classic country and a bit of a pop/rock sound, with each tune showcasing the duo’s unique sound. With Rob’s higher octave and Faith’s lower, the combination gives them perfect harmony like that of the dynamic duo group Dan + Shay, to which the pair are said to idolize. Take the first track, “Tennessee Honey”, is a harmonizing masterpiece with a bit of Pop flare. The tune centers on a guy wanting to spend time alone with his girl, affectionately called Tennessee Honey:
Nothing better than a long night in
Than with my Tennessee Honey
This album is strong in songs with messages. “One Big Test”, is one that talks about a simple life lesson; growing up and learning life’s lessons. This song has a smooth steady beat with lots of strings. “Knocked Down” centers on another lesson of when life knocks you down, you fight your way back up.
When you get knocked down, don’t stay down
In this town you learn to get back up
Besides a few edgy, boot stomping numbers, like “Broadway Bump” and “Weekend Getaway”, things slow down a bit for great tune called “Stay”, which shows Faith’s vocals a little more in the forefront. It’s a masterful piece where he lyrics, along with the duo’s harmonies, paint a perfect picture of being out with your love, in your favorite spot. A place where you can stay all night.
