Sundance Head found friendship and coaching during his time, and eventual victory, as part of Team Blake during Season 11 of The Voice, and while he might have seemed new to the reality show, this southern gentleman proved there was more under his hat. With three #1 singles on Texas Music Chart and a stint on Blake Shelton’s Doing It To Country Songs Tour as well as touring with Zac Brown Brown, his soulful powerful voice can now be heard on his new album Stained Glass & Neon available today (1/25).
Singing professionally in front of live audiences since he was 13, the Texas native has also written and recorded with legendary rock band ZZ Top. The son of 1965 hit maker Roy Head (“Treat Her Right”), Sundance draws inspiration from an old record collection his late brother had that included the likes of James Brown, Patsy Cline, and George Jones, proving that country music isn’t just in his heart, it’s in his soul.
Produced by Dean Dillon, who has written #1 hits for George Strait, and released under Dean Dillon’s Wilcatter Records, Stained Glass & Neon is a 13 track album made up of powerful tunes from the personal and painful times of life. The album’s lead single “Leave Her Wild,” penned by Lori McKenna and JT Harding, is currently at country radio and is available on digital retailers and streaming platforms.
From start to finish, Stained Glass & Neon is very organic regarding the general aspects of life, with personal, painful tunes, with creative analogically representations. Here are a few of the album’s stand out tracks:
The steady drum beat of “Leave Her Wild” leads the listener into a tale of potential romancing of a woman whose character and inhibitions are true to her; if you plan on loving her, you’d better let her be her. This up-tempo, country rock tune along with Sundance’s vocals create a powerful anthem like tune:
“My Favorite What If” pointedly details the second guessing of a romance gone bad and dwelling on what might have been. Rhythmic guitar, along with his vocals, easily pulls the listener in.
Sundance’s raspy vocals are perfect for “Close Enough To Walk,” a rock ballad about a man and what it is about his woman that makes him want her more.
“Showing Off” is one of these analogies, providing a mix of steel guitar, steady beat of a guitar as it creatively paints the picture of God’s glory and the woman he created, from her beauty to her soul; everything she is, he feels is God’s way of showing off his impeccable powers. Powerful vocals help make this tune a true love ballad.
Each track is worthy of listening to which is why Stained Glass & Neon is a download must. You’ll get country, rock, and a little bit of Motown groove with this album.
