Handsome. Charismatic. Soulful. Half parts swag, half humility. If you have ever seen Brett Young in concert or talked with him face to face, you know this description to be true. And if you’re a proud Hilton Honors member and you were in Nashville, Tennessee last Thursday, chances are you witnessed Mr. Young up close and personal. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum hosted a private event September 12 as part of the Hilton Honors Concert Series, against a late summer backdrop of the gorgeous city skyline. The event featured keepsake lanyards, a lit up decorative wall for the perfect Instagram photos, pre reception with complimentary food and beverages, multiple bars, and of course, a full band performance from Brett Young.
Young offered a stellar set list, including a mix of his #1 hits, popular pop covers, and songs off his new EP, which just came out this past Friday. The newlywed and soon to be first time father worked the stage and catwalk for adoring fans, shaking hands, posing for pics and jumping around all while sporting a Titans jersey with YOUNG and the number 11 written on the back. Creating a full circle moment, Young opened up with his current single “Catch” and closed with his most recent chart topping hit, “Here Tonight”. Both hail from his follow up album, Ticket to LA, which debuted at no. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart. Familiar hits like “In Case You Didn’t Know”, “Mercy”, and “Like I Loved You” showcased not only his heart melting vocal runs, but God given ability to command attention without even trying. With vulnerable ballads like those, it’s no wonder his self-titled debut album dominated the Top 20 on the Country Albums chart for 37 weeks and eventually went platinum. We have a feeling his new EP is not far behind when it comes to accolades and numbers. The Acoustic Sessions is a stripped down-down, five song collection of Young’s most cherished love tale, all co-written by the ASCAP 2018 Country Songwriter-Artist of the Year. Right before delving into his favorite song toward the end of the show, Young told the eager crowd that “Ticket to L.A.” was a true story that took two days to write and was hard to fit into 3 ½ minutes.
But not everything in this set list was a Brett penned song and not everything was a ballad. Young got everybody’s blood pumping into overtime, including that of his energetic band members when he covered hits like Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” and Gavin DeGraw’s “Over You.”
The whole night made for the perfect ending to a perfect summer here in Music City. If you are a Hilton Honors member, you know this exclusive concert content is just one of the many perks. Two years ago, Lady Antebellum took the same stage for the same event. Over the years, in different cities, Hilton Honors has hosted these gatherings with artists like Kesha, Maren Morris, Leon Bridges, and more.
