Louisiana born Dylan Scott brought the heat to what was a snowy bitterly cold night and the charismatic charm to go along with his southern boy grin when his NOTHING TO DO TOWN TOUR rolled into Indianapolis on January 26.
He put on a show that kept the standing-room only crowd at the Old National Center jumping to the mixture of country music, both new and old, along with some hip hop while adding enough tenderness to round out the evening. His more than an hour set kept the audience engaged with tunes from his past, present, and future. Scott brought along his tour mate and co-writer on his certified Gold single “Hooked“ – newcomer Seth Ennis – to open the show.
Singer-songwriter Ennis commanded the stage with the perception of long time experience and the adorable manner like that of Hunter Hayes or Thomas Rhett. The Georgia native, who caught the eye of Sony Music Nashville and producer Corey Crowder after a stint on CMA Music Festival, grabbed the attention of the audience with ease.
He bantered with the crowd in between his original songs, including his latest single “Call Your Mama“that features country group Little Big Town. His laid back, yet effervescent demeanor was well received as he rallied through his debut EP singles “Woke Up In Nashville,” “Think & Drive,” and “Look At You,” before impressing the fans with a montage of covers from artists he’s recently toured with, such as “Cruise” (Florida Georgia Line), “Something Like That” (Tim McGraw), “Rain Is A Good Thing” (Luke Bryan), and “Good Directions”(Billy Currington).
Dylan Scott and crew came on the stage like gangbusters, kicking off with his hit song “Hooked,” which instantly got the crowd generously singing along. He graciously thanked the audience over and over for following him, as well as requesting and buying his music. While mixing up his set with covers like “Gotta Feeling” and a slew of country classics from the Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing At All”to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Fishin In The Dark,” his energy and ability to keep the crowd entertained never wavered from beginning to end.
Mid-set Scott serenaded the audience with his new single “Crazy Over You,” and a somber, choir-like performance of “Stained Glass,” a potential April single release. Scott set the mood playing the piano, complete with a stained glass backdrop, for what was a goosebump performance showcasing his incredible vocal chops.
Without skipping a beat, Scott revved up the crowd and finished the night with his very first number one single “My Girl,” with fans singing every word thus creating an atmosphere filled with electricity. The room at the venue may have been small, but the crowds booming feedback of a fantastic night was equal to gigantic stadium.
