William Michael Morgan Tells Us Where He Likes To Go “Missing” During His Stagecoach Debut

After wrapping up his set out on the Mane Stage at Stagecoach Music Festival out in Indio, California, in which he performed fan favorites and plenty of singles off his new album Vinyl, William Michael Morgan sat down with The Country Note to discussing “Missing,” his Resistol hats and his admiration for Justin Moore.

TCN: You just wrapped up your first time at Stagecoach, how was it?
WMM: First time at stagecoach, it was un-freaking-believable. Huge crowd, who was very accepting of us singing all out there and sharing out music. It was a blast.

TCN: How did the wind treat you?
WMM: It almost blew this old hat off. Oh, that’s happened a couple of times, not this year… but we are counting it down. It’s happen a couple of time, last year, we had to track our hat down. It blew into somewhere in the stands. (He laughs) It happens.

TCN: Do you have a back-up hat just in case?
WMM: I’ve got plenty! Resistol has been very good to us. So yes, mam, I’ve got plenty of hats. This is my favorite, though. It’s my newest one. So I’m trying not to lose this one.

TCN: On set today, you performed your new single “Missing.” What was the inspiration behind that song?
WMM: Well, I’m biased, so I love the song. But I think what really drew me to it is the message of it all. Life will beat you down and is too serious sometimes. You just need to go missing. Whether that is turning your phone off and just shutting off for a little while at the house or actually packing up your bags and hopping on a plane or hopping in the car. Going to a little beach town or a big city or out in the woods somewhere. That’s what this song is all about.

TCN: Do you have a favorite place to go missing?
WMM: Anywhere on the beach. Sand between my toes and some cool water. Couple good looking women in bikinis. Cold beer.

TCN: You just finished your tour with Lee Brice, how was that?
WMM: Yes, Lee Brice and Justin Moore. The American Made Tour. It was a blast. They really took me under their wind and showed me a lot of stuff. They told me a lot of stuff and really helped me out. Justin, especially, you know? I’ve got a great dad, a fantastic dad, but Justin was really like a father figure out there to me. So I thank him for that. He’s always going to be in my heart for that. If you’re reading out there Justin, I love you brother!

TCN: For a fun question, what was your first job?
WMM: Well I worked at the Piggly Wiggly, I don’t know if ya’ll out here know what that is, but it’s a little grocery store. Yeah, I worked a Piggly Wiggly for just a few months. Now I had a couple construction jobs, here and there, as well. But my very first job, and my very last job, was at the Pig. Bagging them groceries.

TCN: Thank you for taking the time to talk with us. We loved your set.
WMM: Thank you! It was a blast for us. Getting out there, like a said, singing our songs, having a good time and drinking some beer. That’s all that matters. Can’t ask for nothing more. It’s funny too, I did record the video for “Missing” out here in Palm Springs. I did out here in the dessert by the mountains. Just right around the corner.

Performing the previous night in San Jose for 953 KRTY radio with fellow Stagecoach performers John Pardi and Cam, Morgan coming off “The American Made Tour” with Lee Brice and Justin Moore.
