TORONTO, ON — Canada celebrated the best in country music tonight as the 2020 CCMA Awards presented by TD were broadcast nationally on Global TV. With 7 artist-category awards handed out last night at the CCMA Music Industry Awards and 8 additional awards handed out this evening on-air, the Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA) has done what no one thought possible — create a memorable night of epic performances amidst a global pandemic.
Canada’s biggest night in country music, the 2020 CCMA Awards presented by TD were filmed in two different countries over the course of four days earlier this summer. Capturing the beauty of Ontario and the excitement of Nashville, each performance of this year’s broadcast highlighted the incredible talent found within our borders and paid tribute to the country we all call home.
Vancouver’s Dallas Smith took home the coveted TD Entertainer of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Smith was also lauded for his outstanding accomplishments in 2020 on Saturday night at the CCMA Music Industry Awards where he took home awards in both the Top Selling Canadian Album of the Year presented by Music Canada and Top Selling Canadian Single of the Year categories.
Also celebrating three wins this evening is Alberta’s Brett Kissel, who landed wins in the Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and for the second year in a row he took home Fans’ Choice. Last night Brett also celebrated a win at the CCMA Music Industry Awards for Creator Director(s) of the Year.
2019’s breakout star Tenille Townes continued her ACM winning streak as she accepted awards in the Female Artist of the Year, Songwriter(s) of the Year presented by SOCAN and Video of the Year categories.
Performed from both official CCMA Award locations, James Barker Band’s “Keep It Simple” earned Single of the Year status while The Washboard Union celebrated their third consecutive win in the Group or Duo of the Year category and second consecutive win in the Roots Album of the Year category.
Lindsay Ell wins Interactive Artist or Group of the Year for the second year in a row and Saskatchewan’s Tenille Arts celebrated her first-ever CCMA Awards win for Rising Star.
