25 Years Later – Darryl Worley Reminds Us Why We Must Never Forget

25 years.  A quarter-century.  It’s a long time. A life-time. But for those of us who will never forget, it feels like that horrific day was only yesterday. And to those who may have moved on, as impossible as that may seem for many of us, Darryl Worley reminds us – just as he did in 2003 – that that day should never, ever be forgotten.  Not only as a memory for all the innocent lives lost, for our way of life that was instantly changed and how we all came together through this unspeakable tragedy, but also because history can, and does, repeat itself.  If we don’t remember and learn from our history, then it is our own fault should it ever be repeated.

Today at 9:11 A.M., Darryl released his new recording of “Have You Forgotten?” and requested all radio stations across America to join him in this special message.  While The Country Note may not be a radio station, we are joining Darryl in sharing his incredible song and its emotional lyrics:

I hear people say we don’t need this war
I say there’s some things worth fightin’ for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
We didn’t get to keep ’em by backin’ down

They say we don’t realize the mess we’re gettin’ in
Before you start your preachin’ let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire and her people blown away?

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn’t worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my TV
Said it’s too disturbin’ for you and me
It will just breed anger, that’s what the experts say
If it was up to me I’d show it every day

Some say this country is just out lookin’ for a fight
After 9/11 man I’d have to say that’s right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire and her people blown away?

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going through a living hell
And we vowed to get the ones behind bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I’ve been there with the solders who’ve gone away to war
You can bet that they remember just what they’re fighting for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yes some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field

Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on

Now we don’t have to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

From someone who was there that day, thank you Darryl for making sure Americans #NeverForget.
