Nashville, TN –– More than 8,000 members of our nation’s music community have received over $30 million in lifesaving health care and insurance premium savings thanks to the dedication of Music Health Alliance (MHA) — all in the organization’s first five years of service. As the Nashville-based non-profit begins its sixth year, the seven-person team at MHA continues to advocate on behalf of songwriters, producers, audio engineers, musicians, recording artists, publishers and more across the country.
In 2017 alone, MHA tirelessly served more than 2,700 clients – people with real needs…people with real stories. A traumatic brain injury patient was able to continue her treatments thanks to MHA assisting her with the remediation of a $1.5 million dollars medical bill. A lung transplant patient was able to access a local transplant team, close to his support system and family, instead of moving to another state for the procedure. An insulin dependent diabetic is now able to see again thanks to MHA connecting him directly to his medication. He had been told “no” so many times before that he had given up. In the last few months, MHA has helped connect many in the industry with trauma counselors as needed after the Las Vegas tragedy, and continues the ongoing support.
Over the 45-day health insurance open enrollment period, MHA served more than 1,800 insurance clients, a 25% increase over 2016. During this period MHA realized more than $6,900,000 in health insurance premium savings for its clients, more than doubling the dollars saved in 2017 while also finding more affordable solutions for those individuals and families whose insurance costs exceeded their budgets. MHA’s advocates assisted nearly 1% of the total healthcare.gov enrollments in the state of Tennessee.
Music Health Alliance fights so those in our industry never have to feel alone in a health crisis and remove obstacles so patients can receive lifesaving care. Thanks to the direct efforts of MHA, members of the music community across the country have gained access to lifesaving heart and liver transplants, medications to treat Parkinson’s, end of life care and many other necessary services. Its services are free to any person who has worked in the music industry for two or more years or who has credited contributions to 4 commercially released recordings or videos. Spouses, partners, and children of qualifying individuals may also receive access to the non-profit’s services from birth to end of life.
The non-profit’s FREE services, advocacy, education and preventative care initiatives are provided thanks to generous individual and corporate donors.
