Nope, the trio are just attending the infamous race to help celebrate its 100th running. The race itself, set in Speedway, Indiana will happen on May 29th.
Blake Shelton will kick things off headlining this year’s Firestone Legend’s Day Conce on May 28th, the day before the big race. The Country singer and “Voice” judge will bring along Chris Janson and Hoosier Native Cory Cox. “Legend’s Day presented by Firestone is a special part of the Indy 500 ,where fans can celebrate its history and get ready for a great race on Sunday” said IMS President, Doug Boles.
Keith Urban will enjoy the ride of a lifetime when he attends the Indianapolis 500 festivities! The country singer will ride alongside Legendary driver Mario Andretti in a custom built 2 seat Indy car. Urban & Andretti will follow 4 parade cars and lead the official Pace Car on 3 parade laps leading up to the most famous race in the world. Once Andretti & Urban exit the field, all 33 cars will line up for the green flag.
Urban has said that he inherited his love of driving from his Dad, when they would take family road trips just for the love of driving! Racing/driving is also featured in a lot of his songs off his new album Ripcord, which was released May 6th.
Lastly, Darius Rucker will bring his “Southern Style” to the iconic race by singing the National Anthem: “I am honored to be singing the National Anthem at the Indianapolis 500 and to be invited to help celebrate the milestone of its 100th running” Rucker said in a statement. Rucker’s performance will follow that of iconic song “Back Home Again” sung by Voice winner & Hoosier native, Josh Kaufman.
This will be a celebration among celebrations, tune in to ABC at 12 noon EST for the race.
