Ashley Campbell personally thanked fans for “remembering” her father, the legendary Glen Campbell. In a hand-written letter, she wrote that while her dad was battling Azheimer’s, “music was the thing that could bring him back to us when the fog would pull him just a little further away.” She also explained her thoughts behind writing the heartbreaking “Remembering,” which she wrote with Kai Welch. The song was featured on the Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me Soundtrack.
You can read her thoughtful words below:
Campbell, who battled the disease for six years, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, at the age of 81.
While “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” was written from the point of view of the person dealing with the affects of Alzheimer’s, “Remembering” offers the point of view of those who have to witness their loved ones fight this debilitating disease – especially the involuntarily losing of memories that were once held so dear- and how they vow to remember them.
As emotional as the lyrics are, the music video for “Remembering” is equally as poignant. The inclusion of home footage and photos allow fans to connect to both Ashley and her dad on a personal, deeper level. Watch the beautiful video here.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Campbell family.
My special tribute to a Legend, forever Gentle on Our Minds ..
