AWA Win At Annual Will Rogers Awards To Be Televised
NASHVILLE, TN — Bobby Marquez is the Academy of Western Artists Pure Male Vocalist of the Year. That honor was announced March 15th at the annual Will Rogers Awards on the campus of Texas Christian University.
Bobby smiles as he recalls the moment radio personality Dave Alexander called out his name as the winner from the final five nominees in the category. “I was in shock. I just sat there for a minute until the crowd started screaming. Some legendary DJs voted on this award. I can’t thank them enough for supporting my music, especially my first venture into western music with my new song, The Cowboy Way. Plus, one of the first DJs to play my song, the legendary Bill Mack was there. And Randy Travis sat right in front of me as I accepted the award. It just doesn’t get any better,” states Marquez.
The annual event awards performers in country, western and western swing genres, along with artists upholding the western legacy. Boot makers, engravers, saddle makers, western authors, poets and western artists were all recognized. The crowd also enjoyed performances from nominees. And legendary DJ Bill Mack was spotlighted with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This year’s show was hosted by television personality and singer Penny Gilley. It was taped to air later this year on the Cowboy Channel.
in the meantime, Bobby Marquez is on his Honky Tonkin’ Cowboy Tour, which includes his annual St. Jude benefit Country With Heart on June 9th in Nashville, Tennessee. Fans can view the upcoming schedule and find updates at www.bobbymarquez.com.
