MAJOR LABEL DEBUT SHINE ON RAINY DAY TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 7, PRODUCED BY DAVE COBB
FALL TOUR WITH ANDERSON EAST CONFIRMED, SUPPORTING CHRIS STAPLETON IN NASHVILLE
A new live acoustic video of Brent Cobb performing “Solving Problems” is premiering today at American Songwriter and can be viewed/shared HERE.
“Solving Problems” is the lead track from Cobb’s anticipated major label debut, Shine On Rainy Day, which is out October 7 on Low Country Sound/Elektra Records (pre-order). Already receiving acclaim, NPR Music’s Ann Powers praises, “‘Solving Problems’ is emblematic of the calm insights Cobb offers on Shine On Rainy Day, an album genuinely worthy of comparisons to often-invoked names like Jesse Winchester and Kris Kristofferson.”
Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, etc.), the album was recorded live over four days in Nashville.
In celebration of the release, Brent will embark on an extensive tour this fall supporting Anderson East and, on October 15, will join Chris Stapleton for a special show at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheatre. See below for complete details.
Of the music and working with producer (and cousin) Dave Cobb, Brent comments, “It’s not as good as it’s going to get. But if it’s the last thing that I ever do, if I died the day after it came out, then thank God I was able to record it because the songs and the production, it was everything I wanted to say. Finally.”
Dave adds, “I wanted to work with Brent for very selfish reasons. When he lifts a pen and opens his mouth, it sounds like home. I did his record because he’s part of the fabric of South Georgia and the soundtrack to my family. Pure rural country soul filled music.”
Already receiving notice, Brent was recently featured on WXPN’s World Café (listen to the full session here), while Rolling Stone featured him as one of their “30 Must-See Acts” at CMA Fest 2016, asserting, “Live, he’s every bit the charming raconteur, setting up catchy rural anthems that have the loose and earthy feel of a front porch sing-along.” Additionally, earlier this year, Brent was featured on Dave’s widely praised Southern Family compilation—contributing the song “Down Home” and writing the standout “Sweet By & By,” which was recorded by Miranda Lambert. Of “Down Home,” Wide Open Country declares, “…one of the most earnest and accurate retellings of everyday life in rural Georgia. The mixture of Cobb’s charming southern drawl, brilliant storytelling and flawless production melds into a track that is impossible to resist.”
Born in Ellaville, GA (population 1,609), Brent moved to Nashville in 2008 and has since found widespread success as a writer with songs recorded by Lambert (“Old Shit”), Kenny Chesney (“Don’t It”), Luke Bryan (“Tailgate Blues”), David Nail (“Grandpa’s Farm”), Kellie Pickler (“Rockaway”) and Eli Young Band (“Go Outside and Dance”) among others.
