Nashville-based country artist Brinn Black is set to perform at the fifth annual Lyrics on the Lake Songwriters Festival. The festival, now the largest festival of its kind on the east coast, will run from Wednesday, June 14th through Sunday, June 18th at Smith Mountain Lake, VA and provides music fans with a variety of great entertainment as well as the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the nation’s most talented songwriters.
The Lyrics on the Lake Songwriters Festival is a five-day fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, an organization which raises money for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada to provide training, research, equipment and care for the treatment of children facing a variety of health challenges. Contributions collected at the festival will be used locally by Carilion Children’s, Centra Virginia Baptist and Lynchburg General hospitals.
Brinn, who has had her fair share of unfortunate events, looks for opportunities like Lyrics on the Lake Fest to give back to the community wherever she can. Her most recent single, the personal and emotional “Daddy’s Medicine,” premiered One Country a few months ago. Watch the powerful video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
This year’s festival will include ten shows taking place at seven different venues around Smith Mountain Lake. The festival will culminate with an afternoon-long performance on Sunday at Mango’s at Bridgewater Plaza. There is no cover charge for the public to attend any of these performances, however donations to the CMN Hospitals will again be gratefully accepted. In addition, there will be opportunities to purchase various items and collectibles, with proceeds also going to the CMN Hospitals.
Lyrics on the Lake is a local, all volunteer organization dedicated to serving the community, especially its children, through fundraising, toy drives, flood relief efforts, etc. It does this primarily through hosting musical events, such as the Songwriters Festival. Its parent organization, The Musicpreneur Storehouse is a non-profit organization, started by country music artist and songwriter, Brinn Black. The storehouse was inspired by the life of her late fiancee, Erik Blumenfeld, that provides mentorship, consulting and other resources for artists and entrepreneurs in the music industry. In return, it requires its recipients to repay them by “paying it forward,” by serving other charitable organizations such as, in this case, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Leading up to the Lyrics on the Lake Songwriters Festival will be a series of open-microphone competitions for aspiring singers from all around the region , giving local talent the opportunity to compete for a trip to Nashville that will include a writing session with professional songwriters and a showcase at one of Nashville’s best venues. This year’s open-mic competitions are being held in memory of Kristine Williamson, an avid supporter of Lyrics on the Lake, who lost her life in a tragic automobile accident.
The open-mic competition began on Wednesday, May 10th at Mango’s at Bridgewater Plaza, and will continue there every Wednesday night leading up to the festival. One finalist will be chosen each week and the remaining competitors are welcome to return the following week to try again. The five finalists will compete for the grand prize during the festival kickoff on Wednesday, June 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Mango’s. Registration for the weekly competitions will begin at 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday, with the competitions beginning at 8:00 p.m. There is no entry fee for the competitors and no cover charge for the audience, however donations to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will be gratefully accepted.
Also the second annual Lyrics on the Lake Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at Mariners Landing Golf & Country Club, 2052 Lake Retreat Road, Huddleston, VA. The tournament raises money for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals, through The Musicpreneur Storehouse Foundation.
