CMA Fest: when country’s newcomers and seasoned vets pounce on the various stages throughout Music City to cheer and dance to the beat of their favorites, however this year, the Grand Ole Opry had one entertainer bringing fans to tears.
Opry member Chris Young started the night with his latest single “Raised On Country” creating a party-like atmosphere but quickly made the tears flow not only for the fans, but for Young himself when he debuted a new song off his upcoming album. Co-written by Young, Corey Crowder, and Josh Hoge, “Drowning” stems from a line overheard by Crowder and is a tribute to a friend of Young’s who lost his life way too soon. Overtaken by emotion during his Opry performance, this 6’4 man crumbled to the point where fans stood in respect.
Last week, I debuted my new tune Drowning at the @opry and broke down…since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday. pic.twitter.com/DZU9l7Kwjc

Young’s friend Adam passed away years ago and it’s a passing that Young has never forgotten, nor ever written about. Now that the album is close to completion, he has added the track to his Raised On Country Tour’s setlist, but after the Opry performance and all the feedback, including commiserations from fans, the country crooner announced earlier this week that the tenderhearted tune will be released Friday, June 14, so that fans can “make it their own”.
You can now download and stream this incredible song here.
Raised On Country, Young’s upcoming album, will be released later this year.
