For those of us who have been lucky to have known our grandparents, we will never forget memories at their house, hearing their stories, taking their advice, enjoying their cooking and their unconditional love. Those bonds that formed are so strong that when the inevitable arrives and we have to say goodbye, no matter the age we are in life, it’s like losing a piece of ourselves, but we know that they will always be with us. Our grandparents told us those stories, shared their love, advice and recipes not only to help us on our own journeys in life, but also as a way to keep their memory alive.
Courtney Dickinson knows her grandparents’ memory is alive and well not only because of that very bond she shared with them, but because she can feel them with her, especially at very important milestones in her life. Today, Dickinson releases her latest single “See You Here” as a love letter to her grandparents for the past, but also to let them know she knows they are very much in her present:
Every word you said, everything you did
Still running around my head
Don’t need to flip through our pictures to remember you
‘Cause I see you here
Even tho you left you’re never really gone
You’re here
How can I forget when you’re living on
Damn I wish you knew how much I’m missing you
All the memories and tears won’t disappear
I still see you here
“‘See You Here’ is a song that holds a lot of meaning to me,” says Dickinson.”I was blessed to have extremely close relationships with all three of my grandparents. Last year was a big year for me as I graduated college and got married. More than anything I wished my grandparents could have been there with me physically, but I could feel and see them in every moment. These experiences led me to write this song to relate to anyone who has dealt with the loss of a close loved one.”
