BY T BONE BURNETT & STEPHEN BRUTON
THE BOOT PREMIERES A REMASTERED MUSIC VIDEO FOR THE ACADEMY AWARD® &
GLOBAL GLOBE AWARD® WINNING THEME SONG “THE WEARY KIND (THEME FROM CRAZY HEART)” PERFORMED BY RYAN BINGHAM
Crazy Heart: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will release on vinyl for the first time ever via New West Records on December 15, 2017. This special deluxe double-LP edition includes all 23 songs from the Fox Searchlight Pictures film sequenced in their original running order along with a 12-page booklet, lyrics, and photos. The soundtrack was co-produced by T Bone Burnett (10x Grammy® Award Winner and Producer of the multi-platinum soundtracks Walk The Line and O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and acclaimed guitarist/songwriter Stephen Bruton. With Burnett also co-producing the film, the music played a prominent role in shaping the film’s narrative. Burnett co-composed the film’s score with Bruton and co-wrote many of its original songs, including the pivotal closer for both the album and film, “The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart).” The song was co-written and performed by Texas-bred troubadour Ryan Bingham and garnered a Golden Globe Award® for “Best Original Song – Motion Picture” and an Academy Award® for “Best Original Song.” The Boot premiered a remastered, high-resolution version of Bingham’s music video for the track HERE. The album also contains original music performed by the film’s stars Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell; as well as songs from alt-country legends like Townes Van Zandt, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Lucinda Williams, and more. The deluxe vinyl reissue of Crazy Heart: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available for pre-order now HERE.
In Crazy Heart the film, Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake – a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road, and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart. Bridges garnered wins in the “Best Actor” category at the Academy Awards®, Golden Globe® Awards, SAG Awards, BFCA Critics Choice, and LA Film Critics Association. Gyllenhaal was honored with an Academy Award® Nomination for “Actress In A Supporting Role” as well.
The film was dedicated to Bruton, a lifelong friend of Burnett, who passed away just after the film’s completion. In a long and distinguished career, Bruton excelled as a musician, songwriter, and producer. He played guitar with Kris Kristofferson since the early 70s, had songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash among others, and released five records as a solo artist with the last three issued by New West. Just before passing, Bruton was working on Crazy Heart both musically and in a consultation role for Bridges and was able to see the completion of the project before his death.
