Dave Rowland was injured in April when he fell chin first while carrying wood. He suffered breaks in the C1, 2 and 3 vertebrae. He will be undergoing surgery tomorrow, 7/19 in Nashville. He would like to thank the industry and fans for all their support. Rowland moved to Nashville in 1970, kicking his illustrious career off in Gospel music, touring with Elvis and J.D. Sumner & the Stamps. In 1975, Jerry Bradley, at RCA Records, signed Rowland’s iconic Dave and Sugar. For 25 years, he toured extensively with a who’s who of artists including Charley Pride and Kenny Rogers. Rowland, who expects to make a full recovery, is an avid athlete having played in the Music City Invitational Tennis Tournament for over 40 years and the Bob Mueller Golf Tournament. The optimistic star even shared that he recently bought a ball machine to hone his tennis strokes. Rowland can still be seen regularly on RFD-TV in Heehaw and Nashville on the Road. Rowland is in good spirits and shared that he “still gets 15-16 requests a week for autographs even from Europe, Spain, and Poland.”
“I am very lucky that I didn’t sustain a more serious injury. Even though I can’t lift anything over five pounds and I’ve lost 14 pounds in the last month, the doctors say I was lucky I didn’t snap my spinal cord. Overall, I have been extremely blessed with a rewarding career traveling all over the world, even Tasmania! The doctor expects 3-6 months recovery. I am grateful for all the great care, prayers, love and support.
