Tuesday Night’s Surprise Guest The Travelin’ McCourys Join Bentley for
Unpredictable and One-Time-Only Night
Nashville, TN – On his first-ever two night stand at Morrison, CO’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, multi-CMA nominee Dierks Bentley once again demonstrated his unique ability to transition effortlessly between commercial success and artistic diversity. Stepping onto stage for his second consecutive sold out night, Bentley eagerly delivered his biggest hits and one-time-only performances including surprise guest and friends The Travelin’ McCourys.
“We have a lot of stuff going on tonight that doesn’t happen anywhere else,” Bentley told the crowd. “Red Rocks brings everyone together…you can’t treat this like any other show. Besides having all my fans, friends and family here, right now is a full circle moment for me. After moving to Nashville to play Country music, I walked into the Station Inn and saw these guys singing George Jones, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard songs – but they were playing dobros, fiddles, banjos and mandolins. It was because of them that I found a foundation to build my music on. I had to bring them out tonight…the one and only The Travelin’ McCourys! Let’s make Red Rocks ring with some Bluegrass music!”
Following No. one hits including “Different For Girls,” a personal slideshow of photos during “Every Mile A Memory” and fan-favorite album cuts like “Black,” Bentley launched into Kris Kristofferson’s “Bottle To The Bottom” with the simultaneously progressive and traditional Bluegrass band The Travelin’ McCourys. Together, they next took on Bentley’s chart-topper “Settle For A Slowdown” before genres collided with an unexpected treatment of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up.” For the summer tour’s closing night, Bentley invited band, crew, family, friends as well as tourmates Randy Houser and Tucker Beathard to take the stage and ended the night with The Travelin’ McCourys transitioning “Drunk On A Plane” into Del McCoury Band’s “Baltimore Jonny.”
“There’s no other feeling like this,” Bentley shared with fans. “There are some big moments that happen for Country artists, and I remember one of those…selling out the Grizzly Rose. I think it holds something like 1200 people. So we kept working hard and sold-out the Fillmore, it was amazing. And then, you get the call to play Red Rocks. Let me tell you it’s one of those shows you look forward to your whole life. To think we’ve played here six times now and two sold out nights in a row is unbelievable. Thank you guys!”
Night two followed an equally unpredictable night one as mid-way through the epic night, Bentley invited surprise guest Maren Morris, who flew all the way from Boston just for the show, to the stage for their haunting duet “I’ll Be The Moon” off his critically-acclaimed No. one album BLACK. The two harmonized on Morris’ “My Church” before Randy Houser joined to swap vices on “Bad Angel.” As the night rolled through Bentley’s jam-packed set and the capacity crowd sang back to hit after hit, fans ultimately demanded an extended set causing Bentley to break curfew.
“I’ve been waiting so long for this show and trying to think of ways to surprise you,” Bentley continued from stage. “I’ve told you about my friends and family who are here tonight, but I’m here for you fans.”
Known for “traveling his own path…Country music’s most relatable star” (Esquire) shows his depth and diversity as an artist with four CMA nominations in the Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of The Year, Vocal Event of the Year and Video of the Year categories.
