Singer/Songwriter’s Traditional Country Sound Stands Out From The Pack
Media outlet Think Country raves about Riley and the album, “In a sea of male country artists, Douglas Riley’s key advantage is his voice. Never let it be said that the traditional sound of country music is dead in Nashville. The proof can be found in Douglas Riley‘s new album, ‘A Love Like That.’” Click here to read their full review.
Riley, originally from Goshen, Indiana, has spent many years in Nashville plying his trade in the legendary honky tonks on Lower Broad. The experience and influences he gained there are on full display in this new record. His strong and instantly recognizable voice is the product of singing in a highly competitive environment where you either stand out – hold the crowd set after set and night after night – or you don’t make the cut. And just like some of the greats who came before him on those hallowed stages, Riley’s music harkens back to the traditional country sounds that form the bedrock of the genre, while at the same time making it fresh and timely.
Riley wrote and produced all 13 songs on ‘A Love Like That.’ His everyman storyteller style is a large part of his appeal to fans. He writes from real life experiences, and the album encompasses a wide range of human emotions, from love, to lost love, to roads not taken, caring for others, and just plain having fun. The excellent musicians on the album bring the songs to life with flourishes of country swagger and just the right amount of Southern rock influence to spice things up.
In advance of the album release, Riley has issued two singles which are included on the project. “Colorblind” dropped in June just as racial division and civil unrest were shaking the country to its core. He originally wrote the song in 2019, and felt even more compelled to include it on the album to share its timely message and his deeply held desire for more understanding and unity in America.
The second single, “That Muddy Water,” was released in September. “It’s about a struggling artist like me moving away from home and being alone in a big city and realizing it is harder than I thought it was going to be,” says Riley. “In the song, I’m lonely in this city I’ve moved to and I start looking back and reminiscing on the days of my youth, a high school love and happier times.” The accompanying music video was filmed by veteran Nashville videographer Flick Wiltshire!. It was premiered by The Country Note, and has received airplay on TCN and The Country Fix show which airs on Heartland, Circle TV, Z Living TV, StrykTV, The Family Channel, Rightnow TV, and Country TV – New Zealand.
Riley says, “I’m excited about the release of my album, ‘A Love Like That.’ The songs on the album are a reflection of what matters to me, as well as real life-experiences. I put my heart into this record – I hope you enjoy the music!”
