Growing up in Stewart, Georgia, Drew Parker first sung at church at the age of 3, taught himself guitar at 14 followed by piano by 18. In 2015 he left his hometown for the dreams of making it in Tennessee’s 10 year town, Music City. It only took two of those 10 years for Parker to sign a publishing deal with RiverHouse/WarnerChappell (which was just renewed this month), leading to co-writes on Jake Owen’s #1 single “Homemade,” Luke Combs’ debut platinum album This Ones For You as well as Combs’ collaboration with Brooks & Dunn “1,2 Many.” By 2020 Parker now has his own cuts behind the mic including releases “Party In The Back” and “Hell Yea Say When I’m In. Today, Parker is back with his latest single “While You’re Gone” which was written alongside Jameson Rodgers.
Parker’s deep baritone adds emotional depth as he sings about watching the sun go down while wondering where his (most likely ex) girlfriend is – is she out and about looking for a new relationship? a new life in the big city? – but wherever she is it doesn’t matter because he’ll be right where his is, drinking a beer until she returns:
While you’re out there looking for some kind of brand new start
I’ll just be kickin’ it with this BP PBR
You’re gonna come back with your bags pack
Missin’ me for too long
I’ll be right here drinking a beer baby while you’re gone
The ballad starts off quiet and builds until the chorus blows up with rocking guitars and percussion. Parker’s vocals come full circle as he closes out the song returning to the spoken tone that the song begins with.
“While You’re Gone” is released ahead of Parker’s upcoming EP due out this fall.
