R&B-Meets-Country Tune Premiered
Exclusively With American Songwriter
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Whitehouse Records artist Emma White looks forward to the day her love interest is over his ex in latest release, “Can I Call You Then” – available now. Blending R&B and country influences – finding a sound that’s all her own – “Can I Call You Then” is an undeniably hooky, (uber) laid back track that American Songwriter mused “emphatically documents the unraveling of an unhealthy relationship, and the constant reminder of someone’s ex.”

“I guess some traumatic things happened to him during that relationship, but I felt like he kept seeing me as her, and I was being punished for things that she would do,” White told American Songwriter of the inspiration for the song. “I was like, ‘I don’t do that. I wouldn’t do that. The line ‘Call me when you can hang up all your hang ups,’ is just trying to emphasize the idea that in order to move on, or to begin a new relationship, you really have to come to it with a fresh perspective.”
White’s digital release of “Can I Call You Then” comes on the heels of her first national radio single and previous digital release “That’s Why I Drink,” which shipped to radio in May and will begin going for adds on 6/29.
In November, nationally syndicated radio show host Bobby Bones (The Bobby Bones Show) called on fans to check out previously released tune “If You’re In It” via a post on his Instagram account – which lead to the song being featured on iHeart Radio’s Women of iHeart Country. The “relaxed and uber-confident” (Sounds Like Nashville) “If You’re In It” was co-written by White, Jenna Paulette and Will Bundy, and produced by Will Bundy. The video for the tune premiered exclusively with CMT and Hollywood Life.
“If You’re In It” and “That’s Why I Drink” were both part of White’s latest EP The Actress, which released in September 2019. The six-song project included critically acclaimed single, “Ten Year Town” – which made waves in Nashville for its honest portrayal of White’s struggle to make it in music. Described as an “acoustic ballad [that] hits home [and pulls] at the heartstrings of anyone who’s moved to middle Tennessee with songs in their head and stars in their eyes” (Rolling Stone), “Ten Year Town” also received praise from NPR, Billboard and Refinery29, who called the tune “…a heartbreaker, but wow, did someone need to write it.” In addition to featuring her strong vocals, it also displayed White’s talent in both co-writing (Brinley Addington, Neil Medley) and co-production (Brad Hill).
The Actress marked the first project release for White’s co-owned label Whitehouse Records, which launched in January 2019 and was established with co-founder and Nashville entrepreneur Jennifer Coyle.
