NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country artist Erin Kinsey has earned her first RIAA Gold certification for her single “Trouble,” a milestone marking more than 500,000 units sold in the United States.

Kinsey received the news in an unexpected setting. Her manager, Joey Jacob, surprised her onstage with the plaque during her headline show at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, Norway, on Friday, August 14, in front of a packed crowd.

“Three years ago I never imagined I’d get to come here. Now I’m playing some of the biggest shows of my life and picking up my first Gold record in Norway, which shows the power of music to bring people together all across the world,” says Kinsey. “I’m so grateful to the songwriters of ‘Trouble’ for trusting me with it, and that we got to travel over to Norway six different times to love on the people who were loving on my music. To me, this Gold record represents the artist-audience connection on a deeper and more special level. I’m so grateful, and I already can’t wait to come back.”

Released October 11, 2024, “Trouble” first appeared on Kinsey’s EP Getting Away With It and earned its certification in less than two years.

Issued through RECORDS Nashville/Sony Music Entertainment, the track was written by Joybeth Taylor, Sam Ellis and Laura Veltz. Taylor is also behind Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which has spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as of this week. Ellis has written for Lady A, Thomas Rhett and Blake Shelton, and Veltz for Maren Morris, Dan + Shay and Jessie Murph.

The surprise came just one week after Kinsey independently released her debut album, Suede, following her move to new management in 2026. She celebrated the release with a Grand Ole Opry performance on release day, and the album has already earned early support from Billboard, the Country Music Association and Country Central.

The certification caps a steady climb for an artist whose songs feel lived-in and unguarded, qualities that have also made her a sought-after songwriter, with cuts recorded by Dolly Parton, Rita Wilson, Jordin Sparks, Monica and Sara Evans.

Kinsey is currently touring Europe and returns stateside this fall for U.S. dates with Lily Rose and Alana Springsteen. The Gold plaque, for now, travels with her.
