NASHVILLE, TENN. – British country trio Essex County was surprised with a plaque commemorating more than 1 million streams of their debut EP “So Good” during their songwriters’ round at The Listening Room Café Thursday night.

“It was very emotional for us,” said Essex County singer Nate Bass. “We felt so much appreciation from the people who believe in us. It’s hard to find people to believe in you. And when you do, it’s a precious feeling – it’s like an extension of your family. You can put it on the wall, and it’s a memory. That plaque is a milestone.”

Essex County, comprised of brothers NateMark and Kieran Bass, released their debut single “So Good” March 25 and their EP of the same name three months later. The band is the first act launched by AMG Records, an arm of Rob Beckham and Bill Simmons‘ boutique management company The AMG.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Essex County,” said Beckham, who has been working with the group for the last two years. “When I heard their harmonies, I knew their talent was unique and special. I thought they would bring an edgy, fresh perspective to country music. When I see how country music fans engage with the group, I know Essex County will be around for a long time. This plaque is just the first of many.”

Like the rest of the world, the music business has been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Essex County has managed to flourish. In addition to their impressive streaming numbers, the group became the first artist to release a video version of their EP to CMT. Essex County has four videos on the network and has spent weeks in the Top 12 on CMT Music’s “12-Pack Countdown.” The brothers also recently unveiled their billboard in downtown Nashville.

Thursday night, frequent co-writer Brandon Will and country duo Kat & Alex joined the group for their songwriters’ night at The Listening Room Café. Essex County played songs from their EP including their single “So Good” and raucous party anthem “Cheers to You.” Their Grammy-nominated producer Steve Dorff hopped on stage to play keyboards on “For You.”

“To be up there with your friends and amazing talent playing music and sharing it with others is why we do what we do,” Nate Bass said. “You can’t ask for more than that. I wish we could do it every night — hopefully some day soon we can.”
