The bio on her website may begin with the quote “I have always been scared to say music is what I was meant to do,” but let’s just say Kate Mills is no longer afraid. The Philly born, NYC based singer-songwriter has gone through a lot the last half decade, giving her the strength to reach those dreams she had since she was younger – listening to Amy Grant through middle and high school, before taking a more “practical” path at University in Pennsylvania to pursue a Masters in social work. Since releasing her debut EP Little Bird six years ago, Mills has performed at music festivals across the country and has earned a semi-finalist recognition in both the UK Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition.
Mills’ debut full length album Each Bittersweet Drop, available this upcoming Valentines Day, will feature a collection of songs that shares her journey over the past fives years through storytelling lyrics supported by amazing instrumentation. The album’s latest single “Outrun The Night” is set for release this Friday (11/8) but you can listen to today exclusively with The Country Note.
“I got the idea for this song when I was driving through the Arizona desert on tour. The sun was going down behind us, and the shadows were getting longer and longer as it got darker. No matter how fast we drove, they would eventually catch up to us. It got me thinking about how I try to hide, or outrun the shadowy, dark parts of myself I’m not proud of. But I can’t – they will always catch up to me. The only way to deal with them, is to accept them and face them head-on.” – Kate Mills
