With a sound all his own, Matt Jordan is cutting out his unique path through the genre of Country music. His mix of country and “Heartland Rock” sets the tone for his relatable and visual songwriting; a style that clicks with fans from coast to coast as he pens about feelings and moments we all experience. Such as with his latest single “Heart of the Heartland,” released on February 18. While both writers – Jordan and Jordan Brooker – are from small town USA, the desire of just getting into car and driving – either away from something or towards something – is a feeling that everyone can relate to. Adding even more emotion to the song is the new performance lyric video. Set to for release tomorrow, February 25th, the video is exclusively premiering today with The Country Note.
Watching Jordan perform the song, putting his emotion and effort into each lyric while reading and absorbing each word adds another layer to depth to the track. The singer/songwriter shared some additional behind the song information with The Country Note, giving listeners a deeper meaning behind the single:
Q: Tell us about “Heart of the Heartland”
Matt: This is the first song I wrote with Jordan Brooker (co-writer). I was a fan of Jordan’s music before we started writing together and I knew I could count on him to help me write something that had a rocking tempo and a big chorus. Jordan and I both grew up in small Midwestern towns. I’m from Missouri and he’s from Northern Indiana. Highway 70 runs through Indiana, through Illinois, into Missouri and then shoots straight west through Kansas into Colorado – so through most of the states that I’d consider ‘The Heartland.’ I liked the idea of getting on one highway in a small town and heading west, to a new life and adventure. For this song, Jordan and I were able to recall our memories from our youth and the restlessness that just about anyone growing up in a small town relates to.
Q: You’re releasing the Lyric Video of the song everywhere tomorrow, 2/25. Is there a lyric you’re especially proud of or one that holds more meaning to you now than when you first wrote it?
Matt: This song is not meant to be a poetic story, but really just a song that makes you want to get on the road and just drive. The lyric that carries the most meaning to me is probably ‘We’re the only souls awake in this whole town // Can’t keep waiting on the clock on the courthouse // if we’re looking for a moment to get out, it’s right now.’ I think when people are on the brink of a big adventure or a life-changing decision, they often wait for a ‘sign’ or the exact right moment. And I don’t believe that moment ever comes – if you want to go do something, only you can make it happen. So why put it off?
Q: What do you hope the listener takes away from the song?
Matt: I hope this song makes people want to roll down their windows, drive fast and turn the volume up loud. I hope they’ll be singing this song at the top of their lungs.
Q: Is this single a good indication of what kind of music to expect in the future from you?
Matt: Yes it is. I’m really leaning in, as a writer, to a more Heartland Rock genre sound and that’s what this song is to me. Sonically, fans will know it’s a Matt Jordan song, but the stuff I’m working on now feels like my take on the music I grew up on, like Springsteen, Mellencamp and Petty.

What does the rest of 2022 look like for Matt? “I have a lot of music coming out this year that I’m really excited about. There are several projects in the works that I can’t wait to release. This is the first of new music from me in 2022. I’m also excited about getting back on stage this year. I have three shows coming up over the next month and hopefully these are just the beginning of live entertainment coming back.”
