Ches Anthony grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan, surrounded by music and motocross. He learned to play harmonica, guitar, and piano at a young age. His father would bring him up on stage with his blues band where he performed for their fans.
Through his teenage angst years, Ches formed a heavy rock band and wrote songs that would help him and others relate to the struggles of youth. In 2015, he went back to his country/blues roots and joined Sony-signed group Cold Creek County. While honing his guitar skills playing in the band for several years, he began to listen to the heartache and emotion in old blues master’s voices like Howlin’ Wolf and Elmore James and the old country grit of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, he started to develop his own writing and singing style.
Since deciding to go solo in 2018, Ches Anthony has released two albums and will have his third out at the beginning of this year. Two of Ches Anthony’s releases were written by Chris Stapleton, a true honor to Ches as he is one of his biggest influences. Ches has headlined several big-time shows, including Whiskey Jam in Nashville and several sold-out shows in Saskatoon, CA. On the rock side of his career, he played major festivals such as Warped Tour and toured with Three Days Grace.
The emotional passion in his vocals and heart-hitting lyrics relate to everyone, from their own struggles and conflicts to confidence and success, which is what makes us feel something when we hear Ches Anthony’s music. Ches released his new single “Rain” on October 8th, and today he is premiering the music video exclusively with The Country Note.
The music video pulls us from our front row seats, right into a blue-collar world. Through Ches’ lyrics, “Hard work is all it takes. Putting in hard work till dusk… just need a little rain,” he displays a deep connection and trust between farmer and earth. Suggesting that there is a certain expectation for the “universe” or “the powers that be” to reward hard work with the one thing that is out of his control. Rain. He perfectly demonstrates the familial ties that a farm can signify, and in doing that gives us a personal stake in whether or not rain will come. Beautiful imagery of prosperous fields, tractors, and pickup trucks has us joining in on the triumph of a fruitful season. Not only is the video stunning visually, but Ches’ companion while cruising down country backroads is his sweet pup, Spencer, sure to make any viewer’s heart swell.
