It may be that the name Andy Leftwich doesn’t sound familiar to you, but if you are a fan of bluegrass, you definitely know his work. A master of his instruments (fiddle, mandolin and guitar), Leftwich has recorded for a full spectrum of artists including Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, Steven Curtis Chapman and Keb’ Mo’ to his fellows in bluegrass Dailey & Vincent, Larry Cordle and his long-time boss, Ricky Skaggs. However, on October 28, Leftwich is taking a step forward into the spotlight as he releases his new album The American Fiddler, a collection of 12 songs that includes original material by Leftwich as well as a celebration of classic bluegrass. One of those original tracks is “Back to the Garden,” a wonderful, whimsical tune with Irish flare, and while there is not one spoken word throughout, the song’s notes imitate lyrics that the listener can visualize.
“In 2006 I was married to my beautiful wife, Rachel. A few weeks leading up to the wedding, this melody came to me. Life and marriage began in a garden and because of sin, man has ruined a perfect world that God created. This song’s title is based on the wonderful promises that we read in God’s word where He will one day make all things new and restore us as believers back to the garden without sin, heartache, and pain for all eternity.” – Andy Leftwich
