Even as artists like Toby Keith, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard and anyone with old school traditional country music roots influenced his craft, it was his father that sparked Cody Purvis‘ desire to become a country artist. Seeing his dad’s 1979 recorded 45rpm vinyl single of “The Wreck of the Southern Crescent,” Purvis knew at that moment that he too would have a record with his name and voice on it. Since then, the Virginia native has been building on his career for the past decade. In 2012, he released his self-titled debut EP to high praise, and in 2018 he was a featured contestant on USA Network’s “Real Country,” the same year he released his latest album Boots on the Ground. The album’s lead single “Drinkin’ Terms” recently surpassed 8M streams on Spotify and earned a spot on the Top 50 country chart after hitting the airwaves, getting Purvis’ fans excited for new material.
His fans will have to wait a little longer as the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in the album’s release, but Purvis is giving them something special to help with the time: an acoustic performance video of the album’s title track “Boots on the Ground” and it’s premiering today exclusively with The Country Note.
“’Boots on the Ground’ was a song that really stuck out to me when putting together my debut EP,” says Purvis. “Not only does it have a really powerful message, the song really captures my values and appreciation for the people who make up a small town— like the one I grew up in.” Filmed in his Tennessee home by Tyler Conrad, the acoustic performance strips the emotional and patriotic track down to its core: Purvis’ passionate vocals delivering that powerful message through inspirational lyrics, supported by a strumming guitar.

“Boots on the Ground” was written by Adam Wheeler, Christopher Michael Caminiti and Jon Thomas Langston.
