Sometimes a change in scenery, be it temporary like a vacation or more permanent as in a move, can stir something in one’s soul – a spark of inspiration, a new sense of purpose – that must be followed through. That experience happened to David Jameson after living in China and Malaysia while working with the international management consulting firm McKinsey. The Indiana native’s creative side took hold as he began performing locally overseas, even participating in competitions similar to American Idol and placing second. Upon moving back stateside and leaving consulting for oil, Jameson took advantage of his new Texan home, involving himself in the local music scene and catching the ear of those in the inner circle of Americana / Country, including W.B. Walker. During the pandemic, he honed his craft of writing storytelling songs – including murder ballads – that beckon back to the 1800s and 1900s. Now back home in Indiana, Jameson was inspired to share his family stories, writing songs of vivid lyrics that bring these personal tales to life for the listener. Some of those songs are set to be released on his debut album Tall Dark Pines (1/27/22) and today Jameson is premiering his new single “Ballin’ the Jack” exclusively with The Country Note.
“This song was born out of a conversation I had with my uncle about his time as a long haul truck driver,” says Jameson. “I actually incorporated his stories and some of his words directly into the song. On the surface this song is about a truck driver losing control of his vehicle, but there’s also a second storyline that uses the metaphor of the truck to refer to a person driven to the edge by anxiety or drug addiction.”
