14 years ago, a simple idea was born: those who have a love for music can share their desire to help charitable causes at live music events. That mission is what brought Florida non-profit Rock By The Sea into reality. Over the years the group has organically grown its network of volunteers, musicians, and fans and has raised close to $800,000 for a variety of causes in 38 states including immunotherapy research, Down Syndrome outreach, Tennessee area libraries and Humane Societies, Feed the Children, and more. But like every good invention, innovation helps it progress, and the charity furthered their abilities to reach out with releases of original music. The songs are the result of veteran songwriters meeting up in a cottage on St. George Island to write, sing and record. In 2018, Write By The Sea, Vol. 1 was released and its follow up Write By The Sea, Vol 2 will be released on June 26 with proceeds benefiting brain cancer research. The first single from this collaboration CD is JR Moore’s “What It Takes” featuring Todd Wright and Ethan Mentzer premieres today exclusively with The Country Note.
“We thought it’d be cool to have a song about the importance and vulnerability of real, human connection,” says Moore. “Even something as simple as eye contact, or a half-smile, or a touch. Something that is not done through a screen or a text message. But of course, we also wanted it to sound good and actually be a good song! Crazy how accidentally applicable it is to our current situation, which we certainly couldn’t have predicted when we wrote it. And we’re certainly hopeful that it can help Rock By The Sea continue their amazing work to raise money for cancer research!”
