Last year, alt-country Nashville-based, Australian-born Katie Cole revisited “Time On My Hands” – the first single off her 2018 solo EP Things That Break Part 1 – as the song took on new meaning as a way to help cope and understand what we were all going through during the quarantines of 2020. Fast forward to now, more than half way through 2021, and Katie is back with yet another release that hits right in the soul-searching feels. “River Flow” was digitally released on Friday (7/23) and today Katie is exclusively premiering the official visualizer with The Country Note.
“The song is really about creating and following your own path, despite what anyone else is doing,” says Katie. “Seemed like the perfect lead off single for 2021 and my new Rivers & Roads project.”
Back in April, Katie created a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of her Rivers & Roads EP, which was created during the pandemic. The campaign was an incredible success, hitting almost 4x her original goal. “River Flow” is the first single to come form this project.
“After such a crazy 2020 and half of 2021 still feeling uncertain…. it seems like the right time to be brave and move forward again.”
The fun, retro aesthetic of the video perfectly matches Katie’s classic vocals and the uplifting moral of the song:
Ain’t trying to walk on water
Just tryin’ to find my place
Something a little wilder keeps calling my name
Whatever it is,
Wherever it goes
Winding round and round
Through the highs and lows
Carving through rock
Mark my name in stone
I’m like the River Flow
