“65 baby-blue Ford has got me truckin’ down this cotton-field road
Fast or slow honey I don’t care
As long as I’m anywhere, anywhere with you
’cause all I wanna do is drive, drive, drive”
This past March, Michael Boris, Kyndon Oakes and Mark Vikingstad, otherwise known as Lockeland, made their arrival onto the country music scene with their debut single “Til The Cows Come Home.” The track might as well been called “Til Lockeland Comes Home” as the trio solidified their spot with an impressive lineup of accolades and high profile appearances since. The single hit the Top 40 on the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart, earning a featured performance on the CMA Spotlight Stage during this summer’s CMA Fest, and several dates opening for Big & Rich. Oh, and they were also nominated for a 2019 Nashville Industry Music Award (Best Country Duo). Fast forward a few months later and they’re back with their second single “Drive.”
Co-produced by Boris and Sean Spence and written by Oakes, Vikingstad and Susie Brown (former member of Jane Dear Girls), the catchy, toe-tappin’ single is not only available today across digital platforms, but the guys are set to premiere their debut music video today exclusively with The Country Note!
The highlighted lyric above summarizes the emotion of the song – it doesn’t matter where we go, as long as we’re together. The slight rasp of Oakes’ voice blending with the harmonies of Boris and Vikingstad adds a warmth to the visual lyrics, painting a picture of being free and driving with the one you love, while fiddle and steel provide the supporting instrumental score. That very emotion is played out perfectly in the video, directed by Kevin Deems, as a young couple (Blake Kinsman, Christen Dye) drive in a 1968 Ford 100 baby-blue pickup down the open roads of Leiper’s Fork, TN.
“The vibe of the song is what makes it come alive as a signature; we wanted to keep the storyline of the
video simple and true, and just let the energy of the track be the main character”
– Lockeland lead singer Kyndon Oakes.
The couple’s journey ends at a bar, at least for this video, as they dance along to Lockeland’s performance on stage. If those bar scenes look a little familiar to anyone, that’s because it was filmed at none other than Redneck Riviera on Broadway in downtown Nashville. included with a shot (no pun intended) of a bottle of John Rich‘s own Redneck Riviera Whiskey whose proceeds benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, a charity organization that provides scholarships to children and spouses of fallen and disabled service members.
And now, without any further ado, we present the exclusive video premiere for “Drive” below:
“Drive” is now available for download and streaming here.
The trio is set to travel overseas for their international tour, visiting Scotland and England, in September.
