Since moving to Music City in the 90s, Berklee College of Music graduate Re Mattei has honed her skills as a singer/songwriter, resulting in opportunities to perform at iconic venues such as Bluebird Cafe and festivals like the Tennessee State Fair and NAMM. Her hard work and effort into her solo career took flight in 2014 when she released her debut single “Country Love.” Today the New Jersey native is premiering the lyric video for her newest release “Feels Like It’s Gonna Rain” exclusively with The Country Note.
“Feels Like It’s Gonna Rain” acknowledges that sixth sense that we all have but don’t always listen to: while everything on the outside looks like roses and sunshine, deep down we know something isn’t right and it’s about to come to a head. Re Mattei makes the analogy to that feeling one gets in their bones when a storm is coming; the ache, discomfort, and anxiety.
The somber ballad was written by quite the trifecta of prominent songwriters: Carrie Underwood, Don Poythress and Barry Dean.
“From the moment I heard this song I fell in love with it. I listened to it for six months before deciding to do it and every time I played it I would have tears in my eyes,” states Re Mattei. “I had no idea Carrie Underwood was one of the co-writers, but I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to sing it. I hope you fall in love with it as much as I did.”
Re Mattei’s sultry and smooth vocals stand out beautifully against delicate piano and guitar. One can hear traces of Reba McEntire and Jennifer Nettles throughout the song, showing the songstress’ prowess over her amazing instrument.
