“Just sippin’ by the water in some sunshine
I could use a little bit of sunshine” ☀
With winter finally in the rear-view mirror, everyone’s coming down with sunshine fever and what better country trio to deliver the first summer anthem of 2019 than Southern Halo! Not available on their current album Just Like In The Movies, this highly-anticipated new single from sisters Natalia, Hannah and Christina Morris hits country radio tomorrow (4/9), but The Country Note has your exclusive premiere of “Sunshine” today!
Lead singer/main songwriter Natalia Morris co-wrote the upbeat track with Stephen B. Liles and Eric Gunderson of Love and Theft earlier this year before the ladies headed into the studio to record it last month.
Natalia shared with us how the three songwriters came up with this perfect summer song:
“Love and Theft is a great harmony group, we love all of their songs, and we’ve done several shows together (particularly in the summertime) so I knew a co-write with them for this song would be perfect! While coming up with the song, I mentioned the idea that my sisters and I had, and the boys and I started verbally reminiscing on favorite places that we all like to visit for the summer. Stephen and Eric immediately created a great, upbeat groove that was perfectly jamming to the theme of our write that day, so running with it and telling a story of that perfect vacation to escape to felt natural. Stephen started singing a tune that later became the melody for the chorus and we instantly sang lyrics that we felt were right and honest to the theme.
There was this cute little cafe that I remembered popping into with my sisters when we were in Seaside, FL one summer, and I was craving to be in that moment again: walking around the beach, ordering fun drinks from the cafes, riding bikes in the sun on a board walk—that relaxed, “no worries” feeling. Before I knew it, the first verse had already written itself. Stephen was really good at bringing the focus of the song to craving some “sunshine”, by adding “I could use a little bit of sunshine” to sum up the need to get away to paradise.”
The new single features Southern Halo’s distinctive harmonies, which are as perfect as ever, showcased with beautifully held notes and a fun, funky breakdown of La-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ta-Da-Dee-Da, yeah’s.
But don’t take our word for it – check out the exclusive premiere of “Sunshine” below:
