Give me the roses while I live
Tryin’ to cheer me on
Useless the flowers that you give
After the soul has gone
Every so often, a song comes across your path that makes you stop, re-listen to the lyrics and fully absorb them, leaving you with a different outlook for the day or even longer. “Give Me The Roses While I Live” is one of those songs. The lyrics make the listener realize the importance of living in the now; as beautiful as roses are, what good are they if they are only given at a funeral, rather than when one is alive to fully enjoy them.? The message of the song impacted The Little Roy & Lizzy Show, and they decided to record it for their new album Welcome to the Show, available this Friday, 4/29. Today, they are exclusively premiering the track with The Country Note.
“When we were choosing songs and recording, this song really hit me,” says Lizzy Long, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, banjo, guitar, resonator banjo). “This song made me feel and contemplate things. The words are so meaningful. ‘Give Me The Roses While I Live’ is a song everyone should stop and hear.”
Lizzy’s classic country vocals supported by the incredible musicianship of Bluegrass Hall of Famer Little Roy Lewis and fellow bandmates adds a feeling of nostalgia to the song, driving the weight of the lyrics a bit deeper. “Give Me The Roses While I Live” takes you to a simpler time, when you were more likely to stop and smell the roses, instead of snapping a quick photo with your phone and moving along.
