A seamstress carefully selects a color, certain fabrics, details of beads and embroidery – stitching it all together with a vision of the dress fitting a particular person.  But then, the dress doesn’t fit. Not because of its size, but because it doesn’t compliment the wearer as originally expected.  It sits in a closet and a few years later, a new prospective wearer see this dress and loves it, but it needs a change here and there for it to compliment her.

The journey of a song isn’t much different than this tailored dress.  Veteran songwriter Sheri Swartz wrote “Taking Off My Halo” and pitched it to noneother than LeAnn Rimes in 1995. The track was never recorded by Rimes, and sat untouched for three decades. But much like that dress, the song has been reborn. Texas country singer-songwriter and recording artist Elle Townley worked with Swartz to give the track a few updated adjustments and today “Taking Off My Halo” premieres exclusively with The Country Note.

“It’s such an honor to have a song in my catalog that was originally written for LeAnn Rimes,” explains Townley. “Getting to collaborate with the original songwriter, Sheri Swartz, and update some of the lyrics on something with that kind of history makes the song even more special to me. The track will resonate with anyone who’s ever felt the pull to break free from expectations and the need to explore their untamed spirit, I’ve always been a rule follower— total goody two-shoes, so this song is about letting go of all that pressure and just allowing myself to be wild and free. Even if it’s just for one night!”
