Experiences in life lead to the best songwriters, because they have the stories to tell.
July Moon brought three voices to the table.
Chris Ramos of Sons of Lions chatted with them for The Country Note at CRS 2026 — their first time at the seminar — and shut the front door. That harmony is not an accident. Piper Bateman. Page Mackenzie. Braelyn Watt. Nashville. Formed in 2021. They call the sound Fleetwood Country: Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles in the bones, The Chicks and Pistol Annies in the spine, and a live show that does not sit down.
Debut EP in 2023. Headlining tour. Opening slots for Tyler Farr, The Wallflowers, Josh Ross, Lee Greenwood. Darius Rucker’s Riverfront Revival. Master Musician Festival. Key West Songwriters Festival. Then they packed it up and took it to the UK — Country Calling, Country on the Clyde, five cities in March 2026. That is a lot of miles for a trio that still sounds like they are having fun on purpose.
“The Highway” is the one people found first. “Someone Like Me” got written at Liz Rose’s house when Piper was about to get married, and they sang it at the wedding, which is the most band thing a band can do. “What A Woman Should Be” is the anthem — pressure, standards, a hard no. “Devil Walkin’” is the red-flag one, live-band grit on the record. “Get It Over With.” “Fake Flowers,” part of a bigger 2026 project they have not fully unveiled yet.
They batch content, cover each other when one of them has to disappear to a TV set, and still walk into a room sounding like one instrument. That is the trick. That is the point.
This is TCN Spotlight Series. A different artist every day. Pour something, watch the video, then come read the story.
