Exclusive Video Premiere: Brandon Hartt’s “Who I Am”

“When it comes to country music I’m a rebel with a cause,
a God-fearing man that ain’t scared to break the law”

In his new single “Who I Am,” country artist Brandon Hartt puts it all out there for everyone to hear: his love of God and country music, his run-ins with the law and a work ethic that was instilled in him by his father and granddad. Cut from the same cloth as artists like Brantley Gilbert, Brandon’s rough edge and honest lyrics are pure outlaw with a story to tell. Today, Brandon puts a vision to those lyrics with this music video for “Who I Am,” exclusively premiering with The Country Note.

We recently caught up with Brandon to talk about the three most important things in his life: God, family, and music.

Where did you grow up? Tell us about your family:
I grew up in Locust, NC in Stanley County out in the country. My daddy built houses for a living. He also raced cars and built/sponsored Dale Earnhardt’s first racecar after meeting him at a car dealership. I have eight siblings and was an all-star in baseball and football growing up.

What was your earliest career ambition?
At first, I thought I wanted to be a preacher because I always wanted to be on stage telling stories from the Bible. Soon I realized I wanted to use my music as a way to send my own messages to people. So I became a singer at an early age, singing in church and whatnot.

What was your first job or what other jobs have you had?
My first job was working for my dad swinging hammers and building houses. I still to this day work on houses and as an auto-mechanic as well.

What sets you apart from other artists?
I believe beauty and art come from within. I have an old soul and would like to think that my music touches on some of the older paths that paved the way for music.

What do you do for fun?
When I’m not working, spending time with my friends and making music is the most fun for me.

What would you say your personal style is?
Outlaw, ‘nuff said.

Writing process – What inspires you? Do you prefer to write solo or collaborate?
I’m inspired by God, good family morals, things that feel right and even things that feel wrong. All of that stuff inspires me. I prefer to write solo. I find it easier to tap into my soul and meditate and find my creativity without any distractions or resistance.
