Growing up in East Texas, Dave Fenley discovered early on he had a passion for music, joining the children’s choir at his local church and later in elementary school. His introduction to country music came from his father who taught him all the “good” country songs on the radio, while his love for soul grew after moving to Canada during high school, where he continued his love of singing and again joined the school choir. Fenley’s well-rounded interest in music set the course for songwriting, performing live and creating his own “genre-free” sound. His uniqueness is front and center in his cover of Louis Armstrong’s classic “What A Wonderful World” as presented in the performance video premiering exclusively with The Country Note today.
No matter how iconic this song is, its lyrics bring emotions to the each listener differently depending on how one is feeling at the moment. If you are sad, it delivers hope; if you are happy, it strengthens your spirit and if you are a new parent, you see and hear what you desire for your bundle of joy.
“When Annie was first born I sang every song I could think of to soothe her,” explains Fenley. “‘What a Wonderful World’ always seemed to do the trick but I swear I cried every time I got to the last verse. It’s a song of hope really. I hope this world stays wonderful for her.”
In the performance video, one can see Fenley’s love and feelings as he sings to his dear Annie in the arms of his wife, Amy.

“What a Wonderful World” took on a whole new meaning when I became a dad,” said Fenley. “What songs hit you a little differently than they used to?”
