“I sat down to write this song over video chat with my friend Alex Hughes early in the pandemic. With everything going on we started talking about this new challenge of being at a distance from our loved ones, our family, and our friends.” – Ryan Lindsay
Last month, Ryan Lindsay released the acoustic performance video for “Hill to Die On,” his first in a series of acoustic performances from his incredible album The Ride. Today, Lindsay is back with his second release “Darlin’ You’re Classic,” premiering exclusively with The Country Note.
“I was reminded of a story my Grandfather once told me about meeting my Grandmother,” says Lindsay. “They met at a military ball. He was serving in air force at the time, and they kept in touch writing letters to one another. That’s how they fell in love – with each others words. It’s a compelling story about classic love. Sometimes absence really can make the heart grow fonder. Love is classic and it doesn’t care about distance. That’s how we landed on this song idea.”
Lindsay’s authentic sound brings that love to life with the song’s exquisite lyrics, while the the simple strumming beat allows you to imagine the couple slow dancing:
Maybe I’m dreamin’ but the way you look tonight
Reminds me of a film when they were black and white
Something familiar about the look in your eyes
There’s something written out on the stars in the sky
We could dance all night to an old ’45
I’d sweep you off of your feet, you’d sweep me off of mine
If we find ourselves apart we could write if you prefer
Yeah I’d fall in love with your words, because darlin’ your classic
