Curb Records Recording Artist visits Nashville VA
for National Salute to Veteran Patients Week
Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities, welcomed Curb Records recording artist Filmore to share the healing power of music at the Nashville VA as part of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. During this special visit, Filmore went room to room to play some well-known favorites as part of Musicians On Call’s Bedside Performance Program.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to have been involved with Musicians on Call for a few years now as a musician, and am amazed by the impact it has both on patients and hospital staff. Playing for the veterans this past week – whose fight for our freedoms enable me to have the opportunity to make music for a living – was incredibly special. I’m so grateful to Musicians on Call, the volunteers, and all the caregivers that work daily to ensure a program like this exists for our veterans and patients across the country,” said Filmore.
This visit was one of many hosted by Musicians On Call at VA facilities across the country. In addition to the hospital visits, MOC launched a specialty Music Heals merchandise collection honoring Veterans. With this collection, MOC is encouraging artists and supporters to post photos of themselves sporting the limited edition designs on social media using the hashtag #MusicHealsVets. Proceeds from the campaign will support MOC’s Veterans programs throughout the year. The merch is available for purchase at www.musiciansoncall.org/merch.
“We are indebted to our Veterans for their incredible sacrifices for our country, and it is our honor to be able to serve them regularly through the healing power of music,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin, “Filmore has been a great artist supporter of ours and we are grateful he could bring his talents to VA hospitals across the country and share the joy of live music with the patients, especially during National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. The support of our volunteers and everyone who participates in our exclusive merchandise campaign is instrumental in helping us continue to bring music to Veterans year after year.”
MOC has ongoing Bedside Performance Programs visiting 14 VA facilities throughout the year in cities across the country, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Denver, Nashville, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Phoenix. To date, MOC volunteers have performed for more than 60,000 patients, families and caregivers at VA facilities nationwide, and more than 18,500 individuals at the Nashville VA and Murfreesboro VA.
Through the Bedside Performance Program, Volunteer Guides and Volunteer Musicians go room to room to play for patients at their bedsides. These one-on-one interactions between musician and patient have a powerful effect of restoring normalcy, sharing joy and even bringing medical benefits.
