Nashville, TN – Gabrielle Mooney not only has a brother who is extremely talented, (Shay Mooney of award-winning Country duo Dan + Shay) but she proves that talent definitely runs deep in the family with today’s release of her nostalgic brand new single, “Come On In,” which exclusively world premiered on PEOPLE Country Thursday (9/10). In the sweetly sentimental new track, co-written by Mooney, she recalls the comfort of home, close-knit family and the warmth of idyllic childhood memories made growing up on their Arkansas farm, where the downhome life was simpler and more laid back. It was always welcoming and beckoning – no matter how far she strayed.
The talented young lady recalled to PEOPLE the inspiration behind “Come On In,” which reminisces about homemade sweet tea, winding leisurely backroad drives, saying grace over potluck Sunday dinners, and all of the things that shaped her and she holds dear in her treasured memories of home.
“Every time I go home, it feels like time has stood still, but with a few more stories that I’ve missed,” said Mooney. “I had just gone through family pictures, and been at my grandparents’ place, and my grandpa had just passed and my grandma was not doing well. Later on, I had a writing session and all the memories came flooding back, from my incredible childhood on the farm to the way I was raised.”
Mooney has been writing songs for years, even co-penning the Walker Hayes single “90’s Country,” and has remained close to her famous brother throughout the years as they both pursued their musical careers. She credits him with encouraging her to follow her dreams to Nashville and inspiring her growing love for country music and appreciation for their shared country roots. Mooney took a winding path to get back to those roots though, first singing with the family band on Sundays growing up, and later as a teen smuggling records from My Chemical Romance, Hinder, and Sick Puppies into the house and joining a Southern Rock band traveling the Southeast. Following college in Pittsburgh she and Shay landed in Nashville and she began exploring her influences in songs like “90’s Country” and “Come On In.” The hardworking singer is stepping into a spotlight of her own these days, and her future looks bright with this sparkling new debut!
