George Ducas Hits The Country Music Bullseye With New Single “Drifter”

Latest from Ducas’s upcoming LP, Long Way From Home,
produced by Grammy-winner Pete Anderson, out June 21st

Nashville, TN – “Country music, when it’s done right, is true north,” says singer and songwriter George Ducas. And he should know, as Ducas has been nominated for a Grammy Award, written hits for the likes of George Jones, Garth Brooks, The Chicks, and Trisha Yearwood, and even had multiple Billboard chart hits of his own. Today, Ducas shared the Telecaster- and fiddle-laden “Drifter” from his upcoming album, Long Way From Home.

Written with Ducas’s uber-talented friend and co-writer Jacob Lyda, “Drifter” came from a simple idea: the feeling of being out on the road, highway-bound. “Early Merle vibes, Bakersfield vibes,” adds Ducas, alluding to more of the “true north” analogy. “This song in particular, and the record Pete and the guys and I made with it, point decidedly in that direction.”

Ducas’s upcoming LP Long Way From Home—out June 21st—was produced by multi-platinum, Grammy-winning producer Pete Anderson who locked in step with Ducas from the get-go. “Country music is one of those sounds that needs to hit the bullseye to matter. Anything short of that just flies by and doesn’t much matter,” says Anderson. “And that’s the thing about George Ducas’s songs when I first heard them: they nailed me to the wall. With the rock-solid guts of Dust Bowl reveries, the jacked-up locomotion of the early Bakersfield country sound, and the more modern-minted energy of Los Angeles’ honky-tonk hijinks all rolled into one righteous attack, Long Way From Home carries a distinct feeling of a new history being born. Maybe that’s because Ducas can seamlessly connect all those elements with such a natural flair that it can be a bit overwhelming when the sound is flying at full tilt.
