“American Love” has been embraced by fans and media alike, who praise the song, and is “guaranteed to get stuck in your head.” (Parade) The video paints an intimate, poignant visual of Hasting’s parents’ American love story, one that took a tragic turn in June 2018 when a car accident killed her dad and left her mom fighting for her life with a 3 percent chance of survival.
“This song was something we felt like we had to release,” Hasting tells Sounds Like Nashville. “My father didn’t survive the accident and it’s arguably the hardest thing we’ve all ever lived through… My parents were the definition of ‘American Love.’ They were high school sweethearts and made their marriage work through hard work and a constant faith in the Lord.”
Hasting also shared an update on her mom, Libbee.
“I’ve never met a woman with more strength, determination and faith. She’s got a long road ahead – she’s still recovering and learning to walk again, but she’s doing well and excited for what’s to come.”
