NASHVILLE — Today, Alabama-raised, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Shawna Thompson unveils her poignant third solo single, “Lonesome And Then Some.” Co-written with acclaimed songwriters Marv Green (Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson) and George Ducas (George Strait, Trisha Yearwood) along with Shawna’s husband and Thompson Square co-founder Keifer Thompson, the song showcases Shawna’s deep roots in traditional country music. This release continues to pave the way to her solo debut album, Lean On Neon, set for release on September 13 via the legendary Sun Records.

In “Lonesome And Then Some,” Shawna captures the raw emotion of heartache and regret. The song’s narrative, brought to life by the line “He did me right/I did him wrong; he didn’t say goodbye/he just got gone,” is a testament to the timeless storytelling found in classic country music. The track also features celebrated Nashville singer-songwriter Leslie Satcher, adding another layer of authenticity and harmony to the mix.

Reflecting on the creation of the song, Shawna shares, “‘Lonesome And Then Some’ has this cool California country thing happening, and it reminds me of Patty Loveless with a bluegrass high lonesome feel. We had a ball that day writing it. The mission was to write a traditional country song, and everything that came out of it, I liked from the beginning. Marv knows country music inside out, and George has been a longtime friend.”

She continues, “One of my favorite lines is ‘one shot south of rock bottom.’ I don’t think you can write songs like this unless you’ve listened to country music forever. The honesty and truth in these songs are what make them special. The whole process, the flow of everything, and how the musicians came together was truly magical.”

“Lonesome And Then Some” follows the success of Shawna’s previous singles, “Burn It Down” and “Small Town Wreck,” further establishing her solo career while honoring her traditional country roots. The upcoming album, Lean On Neon, produced by Keifer and two-time GRAMMY® Award winner Chad Carlson, promises to be a heartfelt homage to the classic country sounds that shaped her upbringing.
