Female country duo Honey County has once again combined their west coast harmonies to bring fans not only their newest single “Cry Wolf” and but are also the release of “Ghost Town,” a bonus track that was co-written with fellow female country artist Kalie Shorr. Made up of founding member Dani Rose and new member Sofie Lynn, Honey County has put their twist on country music based on their California and Texas roots.
“Cry Wolf” plays out just how you imagine it. Every conversation and interaction with him is the same old story. He always tells you how much he loves you, and you heartbreakingly fall for it every single time. You recall the days where you would go to any length to keep him happy. One person can only handle so much before you decide you can no longer fall victim to his lies. Finally over his apologies and giving him the attention he is so desperate for, its time to tell him to cry wolf elsewhere.
“We’ve all had those relationships that always seem to feel a little one sided” says Sofie, “and ‘Cry Wolf’ certainly speaks to that. The storyline of the song is about that person that only comes to you when they need you. When we play ‘Cry Wolf’ it’s a personal reminder to myself that there should always be effort made by both people.”
“Cry Wolf” starts with a slower tempo and builds up the anticipation quickly. The harmonies between Dani and Sofie are superb, and you would assume these two have been singing together their whole life. The background track stays mellow, to really allow their voices to shine through the full track. The contemporary country/pop twist on “Cry Wolf” makes it catchy and easy to sing along with.
“This is our first production collab between producers Katelyn Clampett & Maks Gabriel,” says Dani, “we loved everything about how the chorus hit, the embellishments, the vibe and the drums (played by Caleb Gilbreth) really brought it home for us. We can’t wait to see what people think!”
Love can often be a rollercoaster of a ride, and even more so after the love of your life leaves you with a broken heart. “Ghost Town” represents the emptiness he has left behind the day he walked out on you. Pieces of him still remain throughout the house, including the broken promises, hand prints in the sidewalks and celebratory drinks sitting in the fridge. The night he walked out, it felt like your world was going to end. To everyone else, they thought your love was perfect, but they didn’t know what was happening inside those walls. You went from dreaming that one day you would take his last name, but he has left you in a ghost town.
Honey County has really honed in their ability to exhibit how well they harmonize together in their songs. “Ghost Town” has a beautiful tempo, and is not overpowering with the background track so that all of your attention is on their stunning voices. Dani and Sofie truly have virtuous voices that come across flawless. Their cadence in “Ghost Town” really allows you to listen to the story as it unfolds before you.
